Long Division Story Problem


In the long division story problem the word long division denotes a calculation it is used to divide one large number by another.  In arithmetic, Long division is the standard procedure; it is suitable for dividing simple or complex multi-digit numbers. In long division story problem method we can breaks down division problems into a series of easier steps. As in all division problems the dividend is divided by divisor and it will produce a result called the Quotient.

Examples for Long Division Story Problems:

Example 1:

Mimi buys 10 boxes of pens for $9.40. If all the boxes have the same price means what is the price of each box?

Solution:

If we divide the total cost ($9.40) by the number of boxes of pens (10),

                                 

We get, the price of each box of pens is $0.94

Example 2:

Alisha earned $770 working as a janitor and she worked for 10 days. How much did Alisha earn per day?

Solution:

If we divide the total amount earned ($770) by the number of days (10),

                               

We get, Alisha earned $77 per day.

Example 3:

Damon earned $3,685.25 working as a forest ranger and He worked for 5 weeks. How much did Damon earn per week?

Solution:

if we divide the total amount earned ($3,685.25) by the total number of weeks (5),

                                  

Then the Damon would earn $737.05 per week.

Example 4:

Suzie works as an office clerk. If Suzie worked for 4 weeks and earned $1,336.08 how much did she earn per week?

Solution:

If we divide the total amount earned ($1,336.08) by the number of weeks (4),

                                   

We get, Suzie earned $334.02 per week

Solution: The price of each measuring tape is $4.

Practice problem: 3

It costs $7.50 to buy 10 hard-boiled eggs. If the eggs all cost the same amount means what is the price of each egg?

Solution: The price of each hard-boiled egg is $0.75
